Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Advisory Council to Enhance Communication between Hospital and Community
Council to be co-chaired by prominent leaders within Laguna Beach community
Laguna Beach, Calif (Nov 16, 09) To foster increased communication between Mission Hospital Laguna Beach and the coastal communities in which it serves, Mission Hospital Laguna Beach established a Community Advisory Council comprised of and led by the area’s foremost community leaders. The co-chairs of the Advisory Council; Tim Carlyle, Dan Kelly and Melinda Masson; held the council’s inaugural luncheon and meeting last month alongside Mission Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Peter F. Bastone and Vice President of Operations at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Michael Beck.
“We are committed to serving the community’s needs, and working side-by-side to make sure those needs are met with the utmost integrity and care,” said Bastone. “Under the leadership of Tim Carlyle, Dan Kelly and Melinda Masson, I have no doubt that this council will only strengthen the relationship we have with the community, giving it a voice in the future of Mission Hospital Laguna Beach.”
The Council, comprised of 21 people, includes practicing physicians, business and civic leaders, past board members of South Coast Medical Center, and other prominent community leaders. As co-chairs, Carlyle, Kelly and Masson, all residents of Laguna Beach, will work with members of the council to encourage input and foster collaboration between Mission Hospital Laguna Beach and the community.
Timothy D. Carlyle
Carlyle, a resident of Laguna Beach since 1975, is a partner in the law firm Songstad & Randall LLP, which focuses on commercial litigation, general business, corporate, finance and real estate matters. Carlyle represents a wide variety of clients involved in business organization and operations, real property transactions, commercial leasing, title insurance, financing and more. He is a member of the board of directors of First American Trust, fsb, a subsidiary of The First American Corporation. He served as board member of Pacific National Bank, Newport Beach (now US Bancorp). Carlyle has also served on the Board of Directors for the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art and is a past member and president of the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education.
Dan Kelly
Kelly is the Senior Vice President of Governmental Relations & Corporate Communications for Rancho Mission Viejo, LLC, managers of Rancho Mission Viejo and master planners of Ladera Ranch and “Ranch Plan.” Kelly works with local and regional jurisdictions and interest groups within Rancho Mission Viejo and is responsible for the master planning of major community infrastructure including schools, libraries, technology and more. In addition, Kelly oversees Rancho Mission Viejo’s marketing, public affairs, government relations and community outreach programs. He is involved in a variety of professional and community efforts including the Urban Land Institute. He is a board member of the Orange County Business Council and serves on the Board of Directors for the Mission Hospital Foundation.

Melinda Masson
Masson is the founder and CEO of MERIT, which specializes in the forward planning and management of master planned, single family home/condominiums, active adult, and urban high- and mid-rise communities as well as rental property management for investors. Under her leadership, MERIT partnered with FirstService Corporation and is now part of FirstService Residential Management, which manages more than one million homes and condominiums in 3,700 communities across 18 states. Masson has been a prominent influence in defining the community association management industry and establishing its professional and ethical standards. She is a widely-sought spokesperson within the industry, covering topics such as market trend impacts on community associations. She has received local, regional and national recognition for her commitment to servant leadership and philanthropy. Masson currently serves as a member of Mission Hospital’s Board of Trustees.
